How it happens: Watch it happen, Make it happen
This 6 session “introductory” course has a very practical focus to assist teachers in catering for gifted students in their regular classroom. It will be run at Fendalton School where a Gifted Programme has been in place for the last fifteen years. Each session will include time to observe competent teachers working with gifted students in their classrooms, modelling the strategies covered in the course.
“Fantastic course-highly practical relevant and useful. I appreciate your expertise and advice- can we still phone you re: advice?” Comment from a previous course.
The course will address:
- How do I get started? Providing scaffolding, thinking skills, teaching models and practical examples.
- Just who are these kids? Help in identifying students from your own classrooms, matching students with different strategies for managing their learning. Observing and discussing the variance within giftedness.
- How do I get students thinking more deeply? Looking at content, Inquiry Learning , Higher Order Thinking, The Product. Working towards making a difference or having a real purpose to learning.
What works best in managing these students in their regular classroom? Help in planning your content for your own classroom. Practical steps to follow to make a difference to the students in your classroom.
