Digital Safety @ FOS - Followup Notes From Parent Info Evening...

Digital Safety at Fendalton School is an important area of everyone's learning. We are using this term to replace what used to be referred to as 'online safety'. There are a wide range of technologies that children have access to, and that parents need to be aware of.

Parent Information Evening

Thank you to all parents who attended this evening. We had a fantastic turnout of 50 people!

A big thanks also to Sean Lyons from NetSafe NZ and Liz Butterfield from Hector's World.

Part of our followup from this evening is to create a wiki for parents to contribute ideas to, or get resources from. Please click here or the image to the right to go to this wiki.

Handouts from this evening are also available below in the Things for Parents/Caregivers drop down menu.

Click here to view our wiki created as a result of this information evening. This wiki is a web site that parents can contribute to as they try some of the ideas shared during our information evening. Resources and other downloads are available from this wiki site.

The documents below are examples of things we use in classrooms. They are organised into things for parents and things for kids and are PDF documents:

  • Digital Use Agreement - this is an form for parents to explain to their children, sign and return to school. It lasts for the duration your child(ren) is/are at Fendalton School.
  • Discussion starters - Coming soon. This is a list of questions you could pose over dinner, or when you are using the internet at home with your children. These questions are intended to help you guide your family as they learn to be safe, ethical and responsible users of digital technologies.
